Chibuto, my buto!!!

Chibuto Rugby

Chibuto is a city located in the province of Gaza in Mozambique, about 200 km north of the capital, Maputo. It is the principal city of Chibuto District, and is what many of us would call the bush.

Gito, a good rugby player here in Mozambique and an awesome coach, has started a team in Chibuto, Mozambique. He first started rugby in Chamanculo suburb of Maputo with ADEDAR and has really shown his love and commitment to the game. Due to situations at his home in Maputo, he found it better for his education to get out of Maputo and live at his dad’s house in Chibuto. When he settled in Chibuto, he right away started a team of young boys.

The boys really respect him and seem to really love playing the game. I was able to take a trip up to Chibuto in November with Chico, a volunteer for ADEDAR, to do a training with these boys. Their want to learn could be seen, but their Portuguese was hard. Luckily, Gito and Chico could both translate into the local language of Shangana.

We hope near the start of this year of 2018, we’ll be able to bring these boys to Maputo and take some teams to Chibuto to get some competition. These are the opportunities ADEDAR can provide and wants to make happen!
