Mandy's on a Mission
Earlier I wrote about how I, Mandy, have been able to step back a bit from Mozambique and have let our coaches and leaders of ADEDAR in Mozambique take over. I am still working with the coaches to a certain extent and able to focus on the ADEDAR coverage we need, and the looking for sponsors and donors and all that good stuff.
With that being said, I have had some more time to think about ADEDAR and the direction I would like to see it go, and it has gotten me super excited! In the last year, a lot in the rugby world has happened for women:
1. Women are finally getting paid in some countries to play rugby for their country. Something that was only happening for men previously. Granted, it's not a lot of places yet, but it's getting there! New Zealand, Australia, and England pay their players!
2. It is no longer Rugby World Cup and Women's Rugby World Cup. It's Rugby World Cup and then you have to specify if it's men's or women's. It may seem like a small thing, but in the end, it really makes that positive step to seeing us as equal.
3. There are women I know and admire in USA Rugby who are getting hired in high rugby positions, great coaching jobs, etc. What an amazing thing to see happening in such a male dominated workforce, and to be honest, a male dominated sport. But we are changing that. Little by little.
Anyways, where am I going with this...
ADEDAR wants to help this progress and wants to be a part of something big. We are already doing it in Mozambique. Why not globally? Why not focus on growing the game for girls around the world? The idea is still brewing, and we are looking for partners, active partners, who believe in the same thing, that growth of women in rugby will change the lives of many and empower women around the world to take control of their own lives and to give them the chance to be who they are meant to be.
Of course, this whole endeavor is not an easy one. It's going to take a lot of planning, commitment, and vision. AND support from people like you!
I don't think I say it too much, but thanks for the continued belief in us here at ADEDAR and the dream of a equal tomorrow!
Side Note: If you are interested in learning more about this Global ADEDAR idea, please e-mail and let's chat! Perhaps you would like to be a partner and somehow play a role?
